we do not of course know, what important objects the Hong Kong order may be intended to serve, but we do know that it will deal a very severe blow to our business in China, which once lost, very difficult to regain, and which we are already carrying on under the greatest possible difficulties, owing to the no doubt necessary conditions imposed upon us by the Home Government, and by the loss of assistents, including one of our Directors, who are now at the Front.
I must own it seems to me that whilst on the
one hand, we are urged to maintain at all costs, our Export trade, in our case, and doubtless also in that of our
fellow Druggists to say nothing of those outside), our business will be very largely stopped by this Hong Kong procedure I have referred to, and indeed our position will be rendered a precarious one, as we are already three to
four months in arrears in getting our goods shipped.
